Dr. Larry Goldenberg is awarded the Queen's 2012 Diamond Jubilee Medal

Dr. Larry Goldenberg, Professor and Head, Department of Urologic Sciences at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC and Director of Development at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, will be awarded the Queen's 2012 Diamond Jubilee Medal on April 11th, 2012. The Medal honours significant contributions and achievements made by Canadians.

Dr. Goldenberg has contributed significantly to championing research by raising funds to create the infrastructure for the Prostate Centre, which has become a leading National Centre for Excellence in prostate research, education and healthcare delivery.   He has also long been a champion of technology, and was the driving force behind the acquisition of a state-of-the-art da Vinci Robot at VGH which is used in many types of minimally invasive surgery including kidney transplant.

In addition, Dr. Goldenberg is the Director of Men's Health Initiative of BC, a large-scale initiative aimed at improving men's health and quality of life through leadership, awareness and education campaigns, research, and disseminating best practices in clinical care.

The Pan Pacific Vancouver is hosting a celebration of Scotland's most famous poet, Robbie Burns, on January 25.  The event will include fundraising for Prostate Cancer Canada's Plaid for Dad campaign. There will be a traditional itinerary, starting with the official piping in of the guests, with exclusive malt tastings, authentic Scottish cuisine celebrating the haggis and ending the evening with a chorus of Auld Lang Syne.
