Research Pathologist, Vancouver Prostate Centre
Adjunct Professor, Department of Urologic Sciences, UBC
As a research pathologist at the VPC, Dr. Fazli uses sophisticated technologies in modern molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, cell biology and tissue pathology to analyze data and interpret results. From 1999 to 2002, she held the same position at Kinetek Pharmaceutical Inc, as part of target discovery group. She holds a medical degree and specialized in anatomical and clinical pathology at the National University of Iran.
In addition to extensive experience as a pathologist in tumor and normal morphologic diagnosis, Dr. Fazli has established and upgraded research pathology lab equipped with a high-throughput autostainer for IHC, CISH and FISH, a laser micro-dissection system, a tissue micro-arrayer and a high-throughput digital image scanning system. In the last 12 years, she has co-authored over 100 peered-reviewed papers.
Dr. Fazli’s main expertise is validation of prognostic and predictive prostate cancer biomarkers by immunohistochemical and chromogenic in situ hybridization studies on tissue microarrays of human tumor tissue samples.
Dr. Fazli also manages the Vancouver Prostate Centre’s Biobank and supports the high volumes of patient samples needed for research and potential new drugs and therapies. She works to improve existing standards for collection and management of samples to raise sample quality standards and to ensure timely access to high quality biological samples.
