The Vancouver Prostate Centre is celebrating its co-founder and longtime leader, Dr. S. Larry Goldenberg, recipient of the 2026 UBC Medicine Bill and Marilyn Webber Lifetime Achievement Award.

Driven by a belief that progress accelerates when researchers and clinicians work together, Dr. Goldenberg helped shape the Centre’s multidisciplinary approach to discovery, clinical research, and patient care. His influential research helped advance prostate cancer treatment, while his early support for active surveillance contributed to a significant shift in care for people with low-risk disease.

Dr. Goldenberg’s commitment to supporting the whole person also led him to establish the Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program, which helps patients and families navigate the physical and psychological effects of prostate cancer and its treatment.

“Dr. Goldenberg's greatest legacy may be the institutions he built and the collaborative, patient-centred ethos he instilled within them. The Vancouver Prostate Centre, the Mohseni Institute for Urologic Sciences, and UBC's Department of Urologic Sciences stand as enduring testaments to his vision, leadership, and commitment to improving lives through innovation and partnership”

– Dr. Peter Black, Director, Vancouver Prostate Centre, and Professor and Head, UBC Department of Urologic Sciences

Congratulations to Dr. Goldenberg on this well-deserved recognition and his enduring contributions to prostate cancer research and care.
