The M. H. Mohseni Institute of Urologic Sciences has been officially launched, representing a major boost to clinical care and research programs dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of urologic disorders. The Institute is named in honor of Mr. Mohammad H. Mohseni, who generously donated $20 million to the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s Urologic Sciences campaign. Numerous other donors also contributed to this campaign, raising a total of $65 million in less than two years.

Building on the proven success of the Vancouver Prostate Centre, the Institute plans to use a similar model to create five new facilities committed to innovative research and providing top-notch care for a broad spectrum of urologic conditions. It aims to attract exceptional basic and clinical researchers and promote collaborative team science to address critical questions related to each of these conditions. The five new centres will be: Centre for Kidney Stones and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Centre for Functional Urology and Reconstructive Surgery, Centre for Kidney Transplantation and Immunology, Reproductive and Sexual Medicine Centre, and Centre for Adolescent and Transitional Urology.

A key goal of the Institute is to accelerate the integration of scientific breakthroughs into clinical practice, ultimately improving health and quality of life for everyone in British Columbia. The Institute is at the forefront of multidisciplinary research, making significant strides for patients everywhere.
