Dr. Kim Chi is one of two recipients of the BC Cancer Agency Clinician Researcher Award, funded by BC Cancer Foundation donors.

Selected by their peers from a high calibre of applicants, Dr. Chi and Dr. David W. Scott were awarded a cumulative $1.5 million over five years. Dr. Chi's project will focus on translational research in prostate cancer, while Dr. Scott will further investigate treatment failure in B cell lymphoid cancers.

Dr. Martin Gleave, executive director of the Vancouver Prostate Centre, is the winner of the fourth annual Aubrey J. Tingle Prize. Created in honour of Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research’s founding president and CEO, this award is given to a British Columbia researcher whose work in health research is internationally recognized and has significant impact on advancing clinical or health services and policy research.

The National Cancer Institute, a branch of the National Institutes of Health, has awarded an $11.3 million, five-year competitive grant renewal to the Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE).

Drs. Martin Gleave and Christopher Ong of the Vancouver Prostate Centre are co-leaders of one of five projects awarded funding in this grant.

Prostate Cancer Canada has annouced the recipients of the initial Movember Discovery Grants.  Fourty grants were awarded in total from a record 154 applications.  The grants are funded for two years to a maximum of $200,000 each. 

Drs. Cherkasov, Collins, Dong and Goldenberg lead four of the successfully funded projects, and VPC scientists are co-investigators on two others.

Dr. Martin Gleave, BC Leadership Chair in Prostate Cancer Research, UBC Distinguished Professor and Executive Director of the Vancouver Prostate Centre, is the 2013 recipient of the Barringer Medal from the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons (AAGUS).

This award is presented by the AAGUS to an individual who is doing outstanding work in the field of GU cancer surgery. Dr. Gleave is the first Canadian to be honoured by this award since its inception in 1955.
