Dr. Zoubeidi led an international team that has published their discovery providing mechanistic insights into prostate cancer resistant to powerful hormone therapy, and proposes a potential treatment regime for reversing currently treatment-resistant phenotypes. This work was published online on September 6, 2021 in the high-impact journal Nature Cell Biology , along with a News and Views article focusing on this publication.

Dr. Artem Cherkasov has been awarded a 2021 Distinguished Achievement Award in Excellence in Foundational Science Research, which recognizes outstanding basic science research and scholarly contributions in the areas of health and life sciences.
Projects lead by Drs. Dong, Nappi and Wyatt were awarded Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) research grants in the Spring 2021 Project Grant competition, for a total of $1.72 million over five years.

A $2,000 prize has been made available annually through a gift from Dr. Kishor Wasan in memory of his father, Professor Madanlal T. Wasan (1930-2005), for an outstanding Ph.D. student whose supervisor is in the Department of Urologic Sciences.
VCHRI News has featured an article discussing an international study led by Dr. Flannigan, which demonstrated that a specialized clinic could help to increase the sexual satisfaction of prostate cancer survivors.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Michael Cox is the recipient of a 2021 UBC Killam Teaching Prize. The Killam Teaching Prize is awarded annually to faculty nominated by students, colleagues and alumni in recognition of excellence in teaching. The Killam Teaching Prize is adjudicated within each Faculty, and within the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic.
Dr. Colin Collins has been awarded a five-year CIHR Project Grant for "Uncovering early mediators of lineage plasticity and validation of a metabolic vulnerability in neuroendocrine prostate cancer" (co-investigators: Dr. YZ Wang and Dr. Martin Gleave).
Dr. Lucia Nappi (MD, PhD) has received a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research 2020 Health Professional-Investigator Award for her project "Moving towards a biology-based care model in germ cell tumours."
