Several research teams are investigating new genome sequencing research headquartered in Vancouver to supercharge the discovery of tailored treatments.
Four VPC trainees received Prostate Cancer Foundation Canada research grants:
Vancouver, BC - Sustained Therapeutics (the “Company”) announced today regulatory clearance for a pivotal Phase II/III human trial of its second product, a novel medication for the treatment of a rare form of cancer. Upper Tract Urethral Carcinoma (“UTUC”) is an orphan disease, a malignancy of the cells lining the renal pelvis. It affects about 6,000 patients each year in North America.
Vancouver, B.C. – A new clinical trial is currently recruiting men struggling with a painful, but not uncommon, condition: chronic scrotal pain. The Phase II study is testing an important new therapeutic approach to treat this condition at our centre in Vancouver and in other locations across Canada including Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal and plans to enroll 63 people over the next six months.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation established the Young Investigator Awards initiative to identify the next generation of prostate cancer research leaders who will contribute innovative ideas to the field. This program aims to maintain the vibrancy of the prostate cancer research community by supporting promising scientists in their pursuit of new discoveries. Congratulations to both Shaghayegh Nouruzi and Felipe Eltit, who have been honored with the 2023 PCF Young Investigator Award, in recognition of their work.
Karan Parekh (PhD student) has been honored with the Canadian Cancer Society's Research Training Award; a platform designed to nurture the next generation of cancer researchers in Canada. This award allows him to conduct ground-breaking research specifically on liquid biopsy ctDNA analysis for late-stage prostate cancer treatment responses. Under the mentorship of Dr. Alexander Wyatt, this award provides him with the opportunity to establish connections within Canada's cancer research community, fostering interdisciplinary exposure, knowledge translation, engagement, and mentorship.
An interview with Dr. Martin Gleave titled "Doctor's Orders: Speak up and get screened for prostate cancer" was published on September 13, 2023 in Healthing Online. Dr. Gleave emphasizes the importance of early detection in prostate cancer before it causes symptoms like back, hip or rib pain that usually happens when the cancer has already metastasized.
