VPC enrolls first patient in UTUC clinical trail
Date Posted
The Vancouver Prostate Centre has enrolled the first patient in a clinical trial for Upper Tract Urethral Carcinoma (UTUC), with plans for five additional Canadian sites to participate.
UTUC, a rare type of cancer, impacts more than 7,000 people annually in North America. It affects the inner lining of the kidney and the ureter, posing challenges for complete removal through traditional methods due to its location in the upper collecting system. A mucoadhesive formulation of a chemotherapeutic drug (developed by Sustained Therapeutics) is delivered to the carcinoma site via a catheter.
The initial phase aims to enroll 25 patients in a combined Phase II/III trial.
