VPC Scientists Awarded Prostate Cancer Canada - Movember grants

Vancouver Prostate Centre scientists were the recipients of five of the twenty-six 2014 Movember Discovery Grants awarded by Prostate Cancer Canada on June 5, receiving three as principal investigators and two as co-investigators. 

  • Dr. Peter Black: Circulating tumour cells for risk stratification in men with localized prostate cancer
  • Dr. Kim Chi: Genomic profiling of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) as a predictive biomarker for patients with castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC)
  • Dr. Yuzhuo Wang: Identification of genes involved in development and progression of neuroendocrine prostate cancer
  • Dr. Juan Ausio, University of Victoria (Co-Investigator: Dr. Paul Rennie): Examining the interplay between H2A.Z and EZH2 in androgen receptor dependent and independent signalling in prostate cancer
  • Dr. Gerald Krystal, British Columbia Cancer Agency (Co-Investigator: Dr. Paul Rennie):Generation of mesenchymal stromal cells infected with oncolytic herpes viruses expressing immune modulators to treat prostate cancer

Also announced on June 5, the 2014 Movember Team Grant was awarded to a team lead by a team lead by Dr. John Bartlett of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research, Toronto, Ontario.  Dr. Ralph Buttyan was one of twelve co-investigators on this grant, titled The prostate cancer program project in rapid development of novel diagnostic markers for early prostate cancer (PRONTO).
