Bladder Cancer Supportive Care (BCSC) Program

The Bladder Cancer Supportive Care (BCSC) Program is a novel comprehensive survivorship program developed at the Vancouver Prostate Centre to support bladder cancer patients, their partners, and families, from the time of diagnosis onward. Patients can self-refer to this program or be referred by their doctor or a healthcare professional. A doctor's referral is required for the Sexual Health Clinic.

Located at the Gordon & Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre at Vancouver General Hospital, the BCSC Program is a clinical, educational, research-based approach to care, addressing the challenges of decision-making and coping along the entire disease trajectory to serve both the patient and their partner's physical and psychological needs.

The BCSC Program aims to offer a total of eight modules, providing patients with access to both group educational sessions and clinical services tailored to their needs. Currently, Modules 1 and 6 are available, with the remaining modules expected to launch later in 2025.

BCSC Program Modules:

  1. Introduction to Bladder Cancer and Primary Treatment Options
  2. Managing the Impact of Bladder Cancer on Sexual Function and Intimacy
  3. Movement and Exercise
  4. Stoma Care and Continence
  5. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy for Neobladder and Bowel Management
  6. Clinical Counselling
  7. Metastatic Disease Management
  8. Nutrition Advice for Bladder Cancer

The BCSC Program is committed to delivering the excellence of its program to bladder cancer patients and their families across British Columbia using virtual health services, telephone and/or in-person appointments.

With generous philanthropic donations, and in a partnership with the Prostate Cancer Supportive Care (PCSC) Program, BC Cancer physicians, community urologists and other healthcare personnel across the province, our goal is to ensure that every bladder cancer patient seeking supportive care receives the guidance and resources they need throughout their cancer journey.

Launched in February 2025, the BCSC Program was developed in collaboration with the PCSC Program, drawing inspiration from its comprehensive survivorship care model. The PCSC Program is widely recognized for its excellence in patient care and its contributions to national and international research.

The BCSC Program is dedicated to ongoing evaluation and enhancement to ensure the highest standard of survivorship care for its participants.

We sincerely appreciate the continued support of our donors and partners, whose contributions make this program possible.
